It is a genuine privilege to lead West Oaks School, a setting with a long standing reputation for excellence in Special Educational Needs provision.
At the heart of everything we do is a clear and unwavering philosophy: the needs, aspirations and wellbeing of our children and young people come first. We are deeply committed to providing an inclusive, nurturing and ambitious environment where every learner is supported to achieve their full potential. Alongside this, we strive for ‘Excellence for Everyone’ across our entire school community, valuing strong partnerships with families, professionals and the wider community.
West Oaks is a 2–19 all age special school, educating 500 pupils across our three specialist sites: Boston Spa Learning, Headingley Learning and Woodhouse Learning. Each site is designed to provide high-quality, tailored environments that meet the diverse and often complex needs of our learners.
All of our pupils have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), and we support children and young people with a wide range of needs. These include profound and multiple learning difficulties, complex medical and physical needs, autistic spectrum conditions, and severe learning difficulties. Our highly skilled and dedicated staff team work collaboratively to deliver personalised, meaningful learning experiences that prepare our pupils for adulthood, independence and life beyond school.
We are proud of the specialist facilities and approaches we have developed across our sites, which enable us to provide rich, engaging and supportive learning environments. Our focus extends beyond academic achievement to include communication, independence, wellbeing and life skills, ensuring a holistic approach to education.
If you are unable to find the information you need on our website, we encourage you to get in touch with the school directly. You are also very welcome to visit us during one of our open days, where you can see first hand the work we do and the difference it makes to our pupils and their families.
